African countries are largely net food importers despite the vast resources of arable land on the continent.
The majority of the population on the continent is also living in rural areas under extreme poverty. The need to invest in agriculture production for poverty reduction and food security on the continent cannot be over emphasized.
For countries to truly be sovereign they need to be able to produce their own food to feed their people and depend less on food aid.
